How to Overcome Rosacea Naturally: Commonly Overlooked Causes

Do you suffer from persistent redness and/or thick skin along with flushing, bumps or pimples, visible blood vessels, dryness, swelling, tightness, or burning/stinging on the face? If you said yes to any of these, then it might be an indication of rosacea

From science we know that rosacea is an inflammatory condition. When the skin appears inflamed it is often a sign that there is inflammation elsewhere in the body. Let’s look at some of the commonly overlooked root causes of rosacea and options to overcome it naturally.

  1. Check Your Gut Health
There is a scientific link between gut health and rosacea. Consider and address:
  • SIBO
  • Dysbiosis
  • Leaky Gut
  • H. Pylori
  • Candida Overgrowth
  • Low Stomach Acid
  • And other overgrowths, infections, and/or parasites
  1. Reduce Inflammation
Ways to reduce inflammation in the body:
  • Manage Stress
  • Improve Sleep
  • Exercise
  • Eat an Anti-inflammatory Diet
  • Minimize Added Sugars and Processed Foods
  • Reduce Environmental Exposures
  • Evidence Based Skincare (antioxidants, EGF, Niacinamide, Retinoids, Barrier Repair
  1. Identify & Remove Skin Triggers
Keep a symptom diary. Examples of skin triggers:
  • Food Sensitivity
  • Fermented Foods
  • Foods with High Histamine
  • Alcohol
  • Spicy Foods
  • Exercise
  • Sun and Wind Exposure
  • Using the Wrong Skincare
  • Makeup
  • Environmental Allergies
  1. Correct Histamine Intolerance
Identify why histamine is overproduced and correct. Mast Cells make histamine in response to allergens.
  • Reduce foods that naturally have higher histamine levels.
  • Address gut bacteria and yeast that produce histamine.
  • Consider introducing nettles.
  • Avoid known environmental allergies and test for allergies/sensitivities.
  • Support detox of organs that remove histamine.
  • Remediate mold exposure.

  1. Address Demodex Mites
Demodex Folliculorum are microscopic skin mites that live in our hair follicles (pores). They feed on sebum (oil) and skin cells. This makes the pores of our face (where our sebaceous glands reside) the perfect home for the mites. Demodex type rosacea has an overpopulation of mites and is characterized by dryness, follicular scaling, superficial vessels, and pustules. Treatment might include topical prescription such as Ivermectin 1% cream.
